The OPEN Wi.De. is a non-compromise gravel bike. The design has been kept short and snappy but also features room for a 45mm tire. This bike is 1x strictly, so there is no room for a front derailleur. Additionally, any frame from OPEN can be ordered as an RTP (Ready To Paint) option that is ready for custom paint.

The story about this bike...

In 2016, Wheelrunner founder Bas Rotgans met Italian cyclist and artist Cento Canesio. They first met in a small Italian café on a Strade Bianche sector during an event. Over the years, they kept bumping into each other at cycling events and trade shows, during which Cento was painting live. Bas had one thing in mind: to commission Cento to paint his next bike. And this OPEN turned out to be the one!

The details of this build...

  • The build was aimed at long-distance riding through some of the most demanding stretches. We laced the front wheel of a pair of Zipp 101 XPLR to a SON dynamo hub connected to a Sinewave Beacon headlight.

  • The drivetrain is a SRAM RED XPLR with a 1x crankset, shifting on a 10-44 cassette. Bas chose a Rockshox Rudy in the front with 30mm travel to add some smoothness to the speed.

  • Our favourite 'secret feature' is the Wireless Blips set up 'reversed' and hidden just under the hoods of the shifters. They allow the rider to shift up and down with either hand while eating, adjusting their GPS, or taking pictures whilst racing ultras.

  • Tires and wheels have been swapped to accomodate different terrains and riding surfaces. Even swapping the rear derailleur and cassette out for an Eagle one for maximum gear range.
